About

Hello! My name is Norma Thomas. I am a fourth and fifth grade Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church East Bernstadt in southern Kentucky, a former Business and Technology Manager for a rural telecommunications company and a retired technology educator.

This is my personal blog. Techie Church Kids is focused on technology integration in the elementary Sunday school classroom and other elementary children’s ministry programs.  My philosophy is to empower other teachers by sharing my knowledge of education and the integration of technology.

I write on exciting strategies to reach kids for Christ through the use of technology. I promote the use of the Internet in children’s ministry programs, share free or relatively inexpensive resources and offer step-by-step technology tutorials to assist teachers in children’s ministry.

My goal is to assist teachers in making their classrooms an exciting and engaging place where kids are eager to learn about Jesus. If you are a teacher of elementary children and you want to learn how to easily integrate technology into your classroom, my Techie Church Kids blog is for you.

I typically post one time per week. Subscribe via RSS or subscribe (on the right side of this page) to receive my blog posts via email.

My Biography

First, I love Jesus Christ. He came into my life when I was 13 years old and I remember that glorious day just like it was yesterday. Sitting on the back pew of a little country church, I realized that Jesus died for my sins. I eagerly gave my heart to Him and have never regretted one moment.

Second, I love teaching and kids.  At 8 years of age, I lined my dolls in a straight row on my bed and “taught school”.  From that time on when asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, I answered without hesitation, “A teacher!” And yes, I did become a teacher.

Over the last sixteen years, I have taught  fourth and fifth grade Sunday School and Girls in Action (GA) classes. I have also served as the Director of Women on Mission. During the last six years I have integrated technology extensively into the Bible lessons I teach.

I began my professional career teaching high school computer and business classes for 7 years. For the next 18 years I was the District Technology Coordinator, responsible for technology integration in the classroom throughout the school district.

Under my leadership and with the hard work of my co-workers, our school district was recognized in 2006 by the Kentucky Department of Education as a State Platinum Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) District. Our district was awarded the ConnectKentucky School District Technology Award in 2011 by the ConnectKentucky organization. I was personally recognized by the Kentucky Department of Education as State Ambassador for STLP in 2009. 3_awards
I presented numerous technology integration sessions at the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference throughout the years, served as President of the South Central Kentucky Association of Technology Coordinators and delivered numerous hours of professional development to teachers. I have also taught computer skills classes to inmates at a federal correctional institution and to unemployed adults.

In 2011, I retired from education and accepted a position as a Business and Technology Manager for a rural telecommunications provider. I left that position in December 2014.

My education includes a B.S. in Business Education from the University of the Cumberlands, a M. A. in Business Education from Eastern Kentucky University, and a Rank I Certification in Instructional Leadership from Union College.

I have been married to my husband, James, for 28 years. We live on the family farm near Annville, Kentucky. We have one adult married daughter. We also have a cat named Sophia that thinks she runs the household. In my free time, I enjoy reading, biking, traveling, and being with family.

I pray you are able to get ideas from my Techie Church Kids blog that you can use and that you will share your ideas with me. I am excited in knowing that with God’s help, we can make an eternal difference in the life of a child.

Techie Church Kids is a dream God has laid on my heart. I believe there are bible teachers out there who want to be the best they can be. I hope I can help you achieve your dreams by achieving mine. God bless.

What I Believe

  • The Bible:  The Bible was written by men divinely  inspired by God and is without error. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:11, 89, 105)
  • God:  There is only One true God and He exists in three co-equal persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Genesis 1:31; Luke 3:21-22; Matthew 28:18-20)
  • Jesus Christ:  Jesus Christ is God. He was virgin born, sinless, shed his blood and died on the cross to pay our sin debt, was buried and rose again. He is at the Father’s right hand and will return in power and glory. (Matthew 1:18-23; Philippians 2:5-11; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8)
  • Holy Spirit:  The Holy Spirit is God, Co-equal and Co-existent with the Father and the Son. ( John 14:16-17; 16:7-15; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Romans 8:9-11)
  • Salvation:  Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace. (Ephesians 2:8-10; Acts 16:31)
  • The Church:  The Church is the body of Christ and family of God. (Matthew 16:15-19; I Corinthians 12:12-14; Hebrews 10:25)
